WORLD WAR Z

Nearly 2 weeks ago I went to the cinema with my sister to see this movie. It's about a rare disease that turns people into mindless killing machines.
They spread the disease by biting healthy people, so they are like zombies in a way.
The protagonist, played by Brad Pitt, is in the middle of the beginning of this disease with his family.
The first part of the movie is about him and his family trying to reach a safe place (this is very difficult because there are "zombies" everywhere)
Later, he goes with a crew of soldiers to differente countries trying to find what causes this illness and a cure.
I think everyone will enjoy this movie because it's not an horror movie, it's more action and mistery oriented (the cause of the illness is the main question). It is a very entertaining movie with great actors, dialogues and scenes; I really recommend it to everyone.

the difference between passive and active voice

Hello
today i'm going to post about the passive voice and how difficult is use it, for me.
So, I know how to create a sentences in passive voice acording to the tenses and all about that, but what make me difficult is how to know when to use active voice or passive voice and in what circustances? I think other students are making this question too, It really drives me crazy when people write in passive voice  So I was surfing in the net when i found that

"Passive voice isn't wrong, but it's often a poor way to present your thoughts"

Is Passive Voice Always Wrong?

Another important point is that passive sentences aren't incorrect; it’s just that they often aren't the best way to phrase your thoughts. Sometimes passive voice is awkward and other times it’s vague. Also, passive voice is usually wordy, so you can tighten your writing if you replace passive sentences with active sentence.

When you put sentences in passive voice, it's easy to leave out the person or thing doing the action. For example, "Amy is loved," is passive. The problem with that sentence is that you don't know who loves Amy.
Politicians often use passive voice to intentionally obscure the idea of who is taking the action. Ronald Reagan famously said, “Mistakes were made,” when referring to the Iran-Contra scandal. Other examples of passive voice for political reasons could include “Bombs were dropped,” and “Shots were fired.” Pay attention to the news and listen for examples of passive voice.
Also, a reader named Matthew commented that businesses sometimes use passive voice. He notes that it sounds better to write, "Your electricity will be shut off," than "We, the electric company, will be shutting off your power."

Is Passive Voice Hard to Understand?

A recent study suggests that less educated people--those who dropped out of school when they were 16--have a harder time understanding sentences written in the passive voice than those written in active voice. I only had access to the press release, not the original study, but the results made it seem as if you should stick with active voice if you're writing for the general population.
When You Should Use Passive Voice

Is Passive Voice OK in Crime Reports?

On the other hand, sometimes passive voice does have advantages. For example, if you truly don’t know who is taking the action, then you can’t name the person. This is especially common with crime reports. For example, a security guard might write "The store was robbed," because nobody knows who the robber was.

Can Passive Voice Work in Fiction Writing?

Passive voice is also sometimes useful in fiction writing. For example, if you were writing a mystery novel and you wanted to highlight missing cookies because they are central to the story, passive voice is the best option. It would make more sense to write, "The cookies were stolen," instead of "Somebody stole the cookies."
The difference is subtle, but in the passive sentence “The cookies were stolen,” the focus is on the cookies. In “Somebody stole the cookies,” the focus would be on the unknown somebody.
Passive voice can be helpful if you want to create a sense of mystery in your sentence, which is also a reason that it's not usually a good choice when you're writing nonfiction and you want your writing to be clear.

Why Is Passive Voice Recommended for Science Writing?

An exception is that scientists are often encouraged to write in passive voice to lend their writing a sense of objectivity--to take themselves and their actions and opinions out of the experimental results. I used to be a scientist and I always found that odd. It felt as if we were trying to hide that real people did the experiments.
Some scientific style guides do allow for a limited use of active voice (1). For example, it may be OK to write, "We sequenced the DNA," instead of "The DNA was sequenced," but it's still considered bad for scientists to insert themselves into conclusions. For example, it would be bad scientific form to write "We believe the mutation causes cancer." But you still don't need passive voice to achieve your goals. For example, the active sentence "We believe the mutation causes cancer," could be changed to "The data suggests that the mutation causes cancer." That's still active, but it eliminates the sense of subjectivity.
this quotation made me laugh but Now i realize where or in what case i can use tha passive voice, i hope you enjoy reading and let me know if this was happened to you too?

MEET THE ULTIMATE SOLUTION FOR FACEBOOK                                                    ADDICTS
A group of friends created device that will force you to start unless your session on the popular social network.

Tendencies
If every time you sign you on Facebook you received an electric shock ... Would you still connecting with the same frequency?

At this answer they want to get Robert R. Morrys and Dan McDuff, two students who developed a creative device called "Pavlov Poke", that aims to reduce social network addiction.

The received electric shock every time you login is "unpleasant, but not dangerous," said McDuff.

The device monitors online activity and when to access Facebook, sends a signal to the Arduino, connected via USB, which sends an electric shock through the keyboard.

In the promotional video of the invention can be seen as users receive an electrifying lesson for abusing social network.

The invention seeks to encourage detachment with Facebook, as it is found that many users can not avoid their use and find it impossible to think of living without connecting, which is affecting the self-esteem of netizens.

SANTIAGO DE CHILE HAS THE TALLEST BUILDING IN SOUTH AMERICA

The skyline of Chile's capital has been altered over the past year by a skyscraper -- the tallest in South America and one so towering it casts a shadow more than a mile long.

The 70-story Gran Torre Costanera Center, a giant that dwarfs the city's other skyscrapers, overwhelms the view of a city founded in 1541 by Spanish conquistadors and that remains proud of its colonial-era buildings.

The Gran Torre is located in the heart of Santiago's financial district, and known locally as Sanhattan.' It was designed by Cesar Pelli, the Argentine architect who also designed the 1,483-foot tall Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur.

Taller than even some of the Andean hills surrounding Santiago, the Torre is now a universal point of reference in this city of six million people.

The 984-foot tall Gran Torre is not as tall as New York's iconic Empire State Building (1250 feet) and is less than half the size of the world's tallest building, Dubai's Burj Khalifa (2,717 feet). But it is significantly taller than the other regional giant, the Trump Ocean Club in Panama City (961 feet).

A six-floor shopping mall has also risen next to the Gran Torre, and three other skyscrapers -two high-end hotels and an office building- are going up nearby.

The Gran Torre was built to withstand earthquakes -- Chile, located on the Pacific Ring of Fire, is especially prone to powerful quakes. The building came through with flying colors in February 2010, surviving the 8.8 magnitude quake that devastated much of south-central Chile with no structural damage.

The builders praise their structure as "the most imposing commercial and architectural landmark in Santiago" and "emblematic of Chile's commercial development."

Residents and city planners complain that people going to and from the complex will generate massive traffic jams and gridlock in an already tightly-packed city.

Once the edifice is completed, there will be nearly 700,000 square meters of building space available built on 47,000 square meters of land. Planners estimate there will be some 240,000 people going to and from the site each day.

"We're talking about five percent of the city circulating within a few square kilometers," complained architect and urban planner Julio Hurtado.

"The long-term consequences of this chaos it will be a topic for experts to study," Hurtado told.

  THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT

The movie starts with a medical patient, played by Ashton Kutcher, breaking into a doctor's office at night. The noise has alerted some guards, and he can hear them looking for him. He blocks the door with a couch, hurriedly grabs a pencil and paper and starts writing "If someone reads this, it means that I was unsuccessful and am already dead..." The guards are now outside the office, their flashlights shining in as the scene fades out.

The movie then goes back to "thirteen years earlier". We meet the young 8 year old Evan Treborn (the adult is played by Ashton Kutcher) who is being raised alone by his mother, a nurse. When he is dropped off at school, Evan's teacher insists on speaking with his mother on an urgent matter. Apparently, as part of a drawing assignment, Evan drew a very disturbing picture of himself holding a knife over a couple of dead bodies. Evan has also started experiencing blackouts where he does not remember what has happened. We then follow Evan's life along with three of his friends, Kayleigh Miller (adult played by Amy Smart), her brother Tommy, and Lenny. The following four episodes are pivotal moments, which are referred to later in the movie. In each, we see that Evan has blacked out certain memories.
