            COINCIDENCE OR DESTINY?

"I can't control my destiny, I trust my soul, my only goal is just to be. There's only now, there's only here. Give in to love or live in fear. No other path, no other way. No day but today."-
 Johnathan Larson

  1. I agree with the fact that is better to live each day as the last, not staying trapped on the past nor just dreaming in the future, is better to focuse the energy on todays reality, but we have to be carefull with that, not thinking in long term goals could bring several problems. Instead of that, I truely believe that it's possible to control our destiny by thinking on what, or where do we want to be in the next few years. So my suggestion could be, "living today thinking on tomorrow makes us to be in charge of our own destiny".

  3. This part of The curious case of Benjamin Bottom movie shows us at detail how life is composed by series of events that are connected the one to another and which, sometimes, cannot be controlled by anyone. It’s very interesting how certain incidents -in other people’s life- we’re not aware of may influence our lives permanently. In this case for example, Daisy was rehearsing for her performance at a famous Opera House while lots of people she didn’t knew, each one on his “turn”, were doing their daily routinary activities which finally affected Daisy’s life. This all happened without the awareness of anyone involved, nor all of those people or Daisy. Those persons didn’t know how their acts, on a random day for they, will influence a woman’s life in such way.

That is what I find very fascinating about this movie scene. We won’t ever know with certainty how an action, event or incident in our lives can affect other person’s life. It could be for better or for worst. The great majority of people call that destiny because they state that all of our lifes have already “been written” and we can’t change that. I think this is partially accurate because we can’t control each thing or aspect in our life which determines that sometimes the result we expect depends on someone else decision or action.

Just as a hypothesis, Daisy’s accident could have happened for a particular reason, perhaps to prevent her having a major accident in the future in one of her performances. Perhaps her accident was vital in order to avoid a massive car collision which could have been caused if the cab continued on his route and hadn’t hit her. Possibly that car accident could have made Daisy discover news aptitudes, capacities she didn’t know she had.

As there exists situations we can’t predict, there are other events that are result of our decisions and behavior. It’s good to know, as some extent at least, that we can control our destiny. On the other hand, it’s enthralling to know we can’t foresee everything in our lifes. I read a Stephen Hawking’s quote which I’m adapting for this case, “(…) we can't predict what that will be or when we will find it because if we knew that, we would have found it already!”.
